Mission:
Impossible III
Directed by J.J. Abrams
Starring Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Billy Crudup,
Laurence Fishburne, Ving Rhames, Maggie Q, Jonathan Rhys Meyers,
Michelle Monaghan, Keri Russell
This movie is
hardly anything like its two predecessors. But that doesn't
mean it's not as good... It's just hard to compare the
three.
Mission: Impossible was a fantastic film.
It was thrilling, suspenseful, smart and intriguing. The
cast was fantastic (even Jon Voight). But
it was so solemn. I mean that in a good way. It was very
sober, very serious. The second one was as well. Mission:
Impossible II was still a good movie, but not quite
as good as the first one. Although, Thandie Newton
did make it even better than it would've been without her.
Mission: Impossible III is a different
breed. There are lots of moments of humor that don't detract
from the suspense, but they change the atmosphere. TV's "Alias"
is the same way. In fact, this movie is like a big movie
version of "Alias" without Jennifer
Garner.
J.J. Abrams is a genius. The man is so
talented and so smart. If you have ever watched
"Alias" or "Lost,"
you know that this man can certainly direct Mission:
Impossible III and do it justice. Actually, Tom
Cruise picked J.J. because he was watching old
episodes of "Alias" on DVD and liked it.
As in the first two movies, the cast in this one is great. Billy
Crudup, Keri Russell (a J.J. fave since "Felicity"),
Maggie Q, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and of
course, Ving Rhames are all great
additions. The supporting cast has always been one of the
best things about each film. Philip Seymour Hoffman is
a great actor, we all know that, and this is no exception.
I just want to add, Maggie Q is super beautiful. Wow. I hope
and predict we'll be seeing more of her. Also, Jonathan Rhys
Meyers is very... odd-looking I suppose would be the word.
But again, they are great. Their parts really add to the
movie.
The stunts in the movie are great too. Very well thought out
and executed. Believable too, which is something most big
summer action movies don't bother about. This movie was
expensive, and it shows.
Tom Cruise isn't entirely unlikeable in this, like many
would believe. In fact, his character is pretty likeable.
You want him to do well in each mission. You want him to
kill the bad guy. You want him to get back to his lady
safely. But I'm afraid his real life persona will still keep
many away from the cinema. But folks, if you've not seen
this yet just because you are sick of the man, so are we! Go
see it and I guarantee his real-life ego won't get in the
way of enjoying the picture.
There is so much to talk about. It's similarity to
"Alias," the cast, the director, Tom. The story.
The plotline is good as well. It doesn't make Hoffman this
big unbelievable super-villian. Which is good.
Go watch "Alias." It's actually a bit better than
this movie. Seasons 1 and 2 are the best. Season 5 has been
good too. Season 3 was better than 4 but not as good as 1 or
2. But all seasons are still some of the best television in
years, or ever.
Mission: Impossible III is better than most summer popcorn
movies. Go spend eight bucks and watch it. Although, we
recommend getting your candy at Target first.
