| I remember watching the trailer when it was first released... thinking... "Okay, I am rooting for this movie. I want to like it. I hope Orlando Bloom shows that he can act. Because, so far, he has only showed that he absolutely cannot. I am pulling for him and for this movie. I want it to be good." The trailer made me sad... because the movie looked at least promising, but Orlando did not. And I was even rooting for him! Usually I bash him so brutally, but I was actually wanting him to do
well.
So you can imagine what I was expecting out of this movie... especially after many of the reviews were horrible. I was expecting him to suck and the movie to be not far above that.
I was definitely shown something different. This is a good movie. Some people may get lost in all the details... all the side stories and all the words and conversations. But I think that's what makes it so good. I love when movies are well-written. The script can easily make or break a movie. And this one easily makes it, while other things add to it. Namely, Kirsten Dunst. She saves the movie that Orlando Bloom tries to destroy. Okay, maybe he didn't try to kill it... but he nearly did and would have if she hadn't been there to stop him. He really does try hard, and I will give him a few, A FEW, scenes that he pulled off ok. The minimum. But the chemistry between them (mainly on her side) is very good. If only he would return as much of it as she gives, they could be the next Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The basic way I would describe this movie is fun. It's a fun movie to watch. I smiled alot watching it. There are quite a few good laughs in it. It's cute. There's alot of problems in it.... for example... Orlando Bloom is so breathy. Seriously... It's like how Jessica Simpson sings, Orlando Bloom speaks in an American accent. Does he think all Americans breathe heavily after each syllable? We don't. Hhhhhhhhhhhhhh (that's a breath). Also bad... What the heck is Jessica Biel in this movie for? She is in there for a total of 10 lines or so, and probably 6 of them are over the phone. Have people seen 7th Heaven and Stealth? Well, no one actually saw Stealth. They don't need to put her in their movies! Paula Deen was also good in her role. But I still think she is one of the most annoying humans the earth has ever
seen. Was I the only one to notice and recognize Patty Griffin? Yes. I thought
so. Speaking of her... the music in this movie is fantastic! Not just the soundtrack, but the score as well! I was hoping to find at least a 2-disc soundtrack since there is SO MUCH music used in this movie. Elton John, The Hollies, Patty Griffin, Tom Petty, U2 to name a few. I want the soundtrack. But I also want the score. Nancy Wilson made a great score for this movie. It fits it so well. The best scores blend into the movie. One selection I particularly admired was when Orlando and Kirsten are on the phone with each other and driving to meet each other and watch the sunrise. The music played there is
exceptional. Y'all can feel free to buy us the score and the soundtrack. Please and Thank You. Email us for shipping
information. What else? Oh. Lets talk about the cast for a minute. Susan Sarandon... great actress. She is good in just about anything. But on a personal note... Susan, if you are going to get a face lift, consider getting your neck done too. Your face has absolutely ZERO wrinkles, but, honestly, your neck doesn't go with it. We do not encourage plastic surgery like this, but its not like we can stop you... so we might as well get you to do a good job. We think you are a beautiful woman, though. Judy Greer... she is just so likeable! Alec Baldwin... what about him? Who else? That's all I
suppose. Overall, Cameron Crowe did a good job. I'm starting to like him. I should watch some more of his movies. Elizabethtown was like a lesser Moonlight Mile. WAY LESSER Moonlight Mile. But you can be a WAY, WAY, WAAAAY lesser Moonlight Mile and still be a good movie. Such is the case. (Moonlight Mile, by the way, is our favorite movie and also features Susan Sarandon.)
